Our Efforts Celebrated!

During 2023, DCDS Foundation provided:

  • 400 oral exams and oral hygiene kits for DISD after-school program students and 250 CFBISD students at 11 Give Kids a Smile-Dallas locations with the help of 14 dentists and 22 other volunteers. Over 80 dental volunteers (including 33 dentists) initially signed up, but an ice storm the day of the event scaled down efforts.

  • During the inaugural Dental Tree Program efforts in November, dental volunteers delivered oral health kits and education, along with meals through VNA Meals on Wheels, to 150 low-income seniors.

  • During the inaugural Dental Tree Program efforts in November, four dental offices provided general, direct restorative and removeable restorative treatments totaling $22,335 in treatment to six underserved patients.

  • 745 adult oral health kits and 320 children oral health kits were distributed by DCDS Foundation volunteers during eight community health fairs in under-represented areas of Dallas.


During 2022, DCDS Foundation provided:

  • A 32-chair dental clinic to serve 286 veterans/family members at the Texas Mission of Mercy for Veterans coordinated with TDA Smiles Foundation at the Salvation Army in Garland. Approximately 550 volunteers (including 110 dentists) came together to provide services totaling $385,000, averaging $1,347 per patient.

  • 700 oral hygiene kits and oral healthcare instruction via Zoom and video to in-school and after-school program elementary school students in under-represented areas of Dallas during Give Kids a Smile-Dallas.

  • Approximately 635 children’s oral health kits plus video instruction through health fairs and school Tooth Talks.

During 2021, with in-person opportunities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, DCDS Foundation provided:

  • Approximately 760 oral health kits, along with video and Zoom presentations, to elementary school children during Give Kids a Smile Dallas 2021.

  • Approximately 800 children’s oral health kits and instruction at health fairs and school Tooth Talks.

  • 300 kids toothbrushes for Hurricane Ida Service Project.

  • 1 partial scholarship to a student attending DCDS Dental Assisting School.

During 2020, prior to disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, DCDS Foundation provided:

  • Approximately 400 oral health kits, along with oral heath exams, to elementary school children during Give Kids a Smile Dallas 2020.

  • 1 DCDS Foundation Public Health Dentistry Scholarship.

  • 2 partial scholarships to students attending DCDS Dental Assisting School.

During 2019, DCDS Foundation provided:

  • 1010 oral health kits to adults and children at schools and health fairs.

  • 1 DCDS Foundation Public Health Dentistry Scholarship.

  • 1 partial scholarship to students attending DCDS Dental Assisting School.

During 2018, DCDS Foundation provided:

  • Volunteers and financial support to the TDA Smiles Foundation’s Texas Mission of Mercy in Dallas, which provided $622,888 of charitable dental services were provided to 561 patients.

  • 725 oral health kits to adults and children at schools and health fairs.

During 2017, DCDS Foundation provided:

  • 715 oral health kits to adults and children at schools and health fairs.

  • 6,000 oral health kits to victims of Hurricane Harvey.

  • The first DCDS Foundation Public Health Dentistry Scholarship.

  • Funds donated to the TDA Relief Fund.

And since 1998, DCDS Foundation has had the opportunity to:

  • Educate elementary school children in the Dallas Independent School District about oral health.

  • Place over 1,800 sealants on second graders in Dallas schools.

  • Launch two programs in conjunction with the Dallas Dental Hygienists’ Association to provide oral health education in schools (ToothTalk) and nursing homes (Senior Smiles) in the Dallas area.

  • Provide over $2.9 million in care to more than 4,800 underserved patients at Texas Mission of Mercy held in Dallas since 2004 in partnership with the Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation.

  • Collaborate with Attitudes and Attire™ program to promote volunteers to provide dentistry to Hopeful Smiles™ and Boots to Heels™ programs.

  • Currently fifty-five dentists in the Dallas Area are volunteering to provide dentistry to patients in these programs.
