Future Dentists, Present Impact: UTD Students Present ToothTalk
February 14, 2025
The Dallas County Dental Society Foundation was proud to work with members of the University of Texas - Dallas Pre-Dental Society to deliver an engaging ToothTalk presentation for 100 students at Prestonwood Elementary School in February.
Representing the UTD Pre-Dental Society were:
Jason Ly
Jaden Choi
Prathik Arul
Chau Tran
Isabella Pitre
Gloria Poly
LanUyen Le
Keerthana Balusu
These dedicated students volunteered their time to help young learners understand the importance of caring for their teeth. Speaking at a level appropriate for kindergarten and first-grade students, the presenters walked children through the basics of oral health using the Foundation’s ToothTalk educational program.
Through an engaging presentation, the pre-dental students explained why brushing is important, how cavities form, and how daily habits can keep smiles healthy. The young audience eagerly participated, answering questions and sharing their own brushing routines.
Following the presentation, the group broke into four smaller groups so every child could get a closer look at proper brushing techniques. Using oversized tooth and toothbrush props, the volunteers demonstrated the correct way to brush—making it easier for the children to see and understand the motions needed to clean all surfaces of their teeth. Oral health kits, provided by the Foundation, were given to the children to ensure they had the proper tools to follow up with brushing at home.
Programs like ToothTalk are a key part of the Dallas County Dental Society Foundation’s commitment to improving oral health education in our community. By collaborating with future dental professionals from UTD, the Foundation continues to expand its reach while inspiring the next generation of dentists to give back through service.
The DCDS Foundation thanks the UTD Pre-Dental Society volunteers for their enthusiasm, preparation, and dedication to helping young students build healthy habits that will last a lifetime. Their efforts are already making a difference—one bright smile at a time.
